Google’s Test My Site Has New Page Speed Features

Joe Hall · June 30, 2017 ·

On Wednesday, Google revealed a new updated group of features for their Test My Site.

This update followed new statistics that show that most web pages lose half of their visitors in the time it takes for the web page to buffer. This updated tool can now indicate the number of visitors a web page loses due to a slow loading speed.

Google's Test My Site

Why is Page Speed Important For SEO?

The importance of speed with mobile web pages is paramount for businesses. Mere seconds can make a major difference. Conversions may decrease by up to 20% for each extra second needed for a mobile web page to fully load.

In addition to Google’s Test My Site software showing the speed of a company’s web page, it also shows how they compare to rivals and how best to increase the speed of the website.

To show the effectiveness of the tool, Google shared the experience of a Nashville company. This company claimed that their sales doubled since adhering to the suggestions given by the new Test My Site update.

The fencing company, Yard Dog Fence Company, was able to accomplish this decrease in loading time by trimming the file sizes of the site’s images. By making this one change, the mobile website page speed transformed from 26 seconds to only 5 seconds.

Yard Dog’s success is a compelling case for other businesses to recognize the potential benefits of the new tool. It proves that by decreasing the time needed for a mobile site page to load, a business can gain an advantage over others in search results while also converting more people into paying customers.

Are you worried that your mobile site isn’t up to the required standards? Have you used the Test My Site tool and are disappointed with the results?
